Gibson began midstream services over half a century ago - in 1953 it sold it’s first parcel of crude oil (365 barrels) on behalf of Anglo American Oils Ltd. to the British American Oil Co. Ltd.

The company built terminals at Hardisty in 1957 and Edmonton in 1961 and constructed the Edmonton North terminal in 2006.

The Truck Transportation fleet was initiated with two crude oil trailers in 1969. The company now has over 600 units, with more than 1,000 trailers hauling 250,000 bpd of energy products.

A fractionation plant was built in Hardisty in 1982. It receives trucked NGL from small gas plants and provides retail propane, butane and diluent to local markets.

In 1990, Canwest Propane was acquired to provide synergies for the transportation and retail distribution of propane from locations across Western Canada.

The company acquired Moose Jaw Refinery in 2002. The Gibson affiliate is a leading provider of road asphalt, wellsite fluids and roofing flux for the North American marketplace.

The size of the original 1953 invoice was small but Gibson has never looked back after that deal and continues to grow and succeed!
